A Quick Post-Jam Update
A belated New Year's greeting to one and all!
Thought I'd drop some selected images from the project in case anyone's thinking development has stopped. Note that the locations shown are mostly incomplete and are all from Blender rather than Unity, so they lack the proper post-processing effects and resolution.
This is all part of the Weapons & Robotics wing, the first major location the player encounters after a brief prologue and the inciting incident's taken place. Some plot details have changed (for the better), but this first chapter still takes place inside the same 'game' the title refers to. That title will likely change once I get this ball properly rolling.
I've gone for a bit of a structural overhaul to enlarge the scope of the game to better fit the intended design - with less constricted space for exploration opportunities. The jam submission may have given impressions of a claustrophobic horror vibe, something akin to Silent Hill or Resident Evil, and I absolutely want to capture that sense of dread and loneliness, even if rooms will generally open up more. I'm leaning more towards Deus Ex in terms of level design principles, and I will draw from the same source when it comes to gameplay loop.
I haven't touched the project for about a month now. Not only because of general late-December stress, but also because I want to complete some online Blender and Unity courses before I start importing poorly optimized objects that may have to be replaced later. Of course, this project is going to take a long time to finish, so in the meantime I'll be on the lookout for more jams to join. If you got any suggestions, do let me know.
That's it for now. I'll give more updates once I got a rudimentary gameplay loop in place.
